Qatar held an awards ceremony for translators in China today.
Qatari Ambassador to China Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Dehaimi hosted the event, presenting the 2021 Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding to Ge Tieying, Wang Fu and Li Zhenzhong for translation from Arabic to Chinese, the official Qatar News Agency reported.
The award winners are all professors who “played a vital role in introducing Arab civilization, culture and literature to the Chinese people,” Dehaimi said. They translated many historical Arabic-language texts, including those of renowned 14th century historian Ibn Khaldun. Some diplomats from other Arab countries also attended the ceremony.
Qatar and China have cordial relations. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Doha last October to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.
China is interested in improving its relations with many countries in the Middle East, including Gulf states and Iran. China also donated COVID-19 vaccine doses to Syria this week.
