Tunisia's tennis star Ons Jabeur has booked a spot in the Wimbledon final after delivering an upset and defeating second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka on Thursday.
Jabeur, 28, pulled off a spectacular comeback after losing the first set and being down 2-4 in the second set. The sixth-seeded Jabeur won 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 and will be in the final for the second time in a row on Saturday, where she will face Czech player Marketa Vondrousova.
Jabeur has reached the final in three of the last five Grand Slams.
"Thank you to the crowd that kept me in the match," the Tunisian star said.
"It was very difficult with her shots and her serves. Thank you very much for believing in me,” she added to the roaring crowd.
Speaking about her upcoming faceoff with Vondrousova, Jabeur described her rival as "a great player."
"I’ve already lost twice to her this year. I guess going for my revenge again is working," she joked.
"Hopefully the crowd will be here."
Jabeur continues to be an inspiration for many Tunisians. She was born in the town of Ksar Hellal but grew up in the coastal town of Sousse. She first picked up a racket at age 3, largely because her mother needed to get her to do something to be quiet, DW reported.
Jabeur is the only Arab and African professional tennis player to make it to a Wimbledon final, and the first player to make it twice in a row since Serena Williams in 2017.
Many Arabs celebrated her win on social media.
